Tony Lazzeri became one of the first great Italian-American baseball stars when he joined the New York Yankees in 1926. Teaming up with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig, Lazzeri immediately became a valuable member of the Yankees Murderer’s Row, winning three consecutive pennants in 1926-28 and back to back World Championships in 1927 and 1928. In 1928 Lazzeri was chosen to be a part of Lucky Strike’s wildly successful ad campaign that featured the best sports stars of the day. This 10”x20” trolly car ad panel depicts the Yankees star getting ready to apply a tag to a runner coming into second base. The stadium green background sets off Lazzeri’s white uniform giving this ad great visual impact. The piece shows just light wear and toning, with a scuff mark visible along the right side. The colors remain vibrant and bright. The panel has been professionally matted and framed, making this a most striking example of 1920s advertising art.
