Presented is an item that combines both a sports collectible and a fine sculpture. This trophy comes from the sought-after line of figural trophies issued by the legendary Spalding sporting goods company in the 1920's and early 1930's. Of all the variations, this one is one of the coolest. It depicts a first baseman stretching to dig out a low throw. The detail is remarkable, from the ribbing on the socks to the pattern on the base the player grazes with his right foot. He stands atop a sturdy pedestal which reads, "Spalding Trophy" and, upon closer inspection, engraved text on the central figural baseball which reads, "Won By Bethany, 1928, YMCA Church Baseball League, 1928." The trophy exhibits a nice, vintage patina but presents beautifully. Dimensions are approximately 14x11x5".
