Alex Smith came from a family of legendary golfers – his brother Willie won the 1899 American Open in 1899 and Alex won it in 1906 and 1910. By the late 1920s, Smith had transitioned to become the head professional at the Westchester Country Club in Rye, New York and would go on to design the Club de Golf Chapultepec, home of the Mexican Open. As one of the world’s premier golfers, Smith was selected to be a part of Lucky Strike’s iconic 1928 advertising campaign that highlighted the best athletes of the era. This 10”x20” trolly car ad panel shows Smith in mid-swing against a vibrant yellow background. The piece displays just slight wear and toning from age, with the colors retaining their original luminosity. The piece has been professionally matted and framed to highlight its stunning display qualities.
