This original PSA/DNA Type 1 photograph of Zach Wheat in a Philadelphia Athletics uniform was taken during his final season as a player in 1927. The Hall of Fame left-fielder spent his first 18 years of MLB service with the Brooklyn Dodgers where he was a consistent .300 hitter and run-producer in the middle of the order. The wonderful portrait of Wheat's weathered, 39-year-old face after a long baseball career was issued by Underwood & Underwood and has the look of a classic Charles Conlon shot, although no credit given. The reverse has the Underwood & Underwood stamp and editorial notes in pencil. The notes in black pen are inaccurate as Wheat had retired by 1930. Condition is flawless.
