In spite of a solid a 15-year career spent with three teams, Wally Pipp will always be most famous as the player whom Lou Gehrig replaced in the New York Yankees' line-up, to begin his “Iron Man” streak of 2,130 consecutive games played.  Pipp appeared in three World Series in the early 1920s, led the American League in home runs twice in the dead-ball era, and led the league in triples once.  In the 1923 World Series, which the Yankees won, he batted fifth in the lineup behind Babe Ruth and Bob Meusel. He was with the Yankees from 1915 to 1925.

Presented here is a fine 6-1/2” by 8-1/4” original portrait photo of Wally Pipp. The photo features Keystone stamping on back along with dual date stamps “JUNE 1, 1923” and original paper credit which has detached. EX-MT or better overall condition.
