When one visualizes past World Series’, there’s a good chance the setting is Yankee Stadium. The reason for that association is that since it opened, Yankee Stadium was home to thirty-seven Fall Classics, including 1923, its inaugural year. This awe-inspiring Type I photograph captures the bleachers and scoreboard during Game 1 of the 1923 season. 60,000 fans jammed into the park and if one looks closely, you can see several late arrivals on the elevated subway platform just beyond the scoreboard. The image is so clear you can almost smell the cigar smoke as you read the wonderful outfield signage. A tremendously historic photo documenting the very first World Series game ever played in Yankee Stadium. The Type I photo measures 9-1/2” x 7-1/4” and shows light edge wear. The reverse shows the Underwood & Underwood stamping and original affixed caption slug describing the significance of the image. The photograph has been encapsulated and graded Type I by PSA.
