The deep respect that pitcher Eddie Plank earned during his Hall of Fame career is amply apparent in this distinguished 1922 original wire photo. Plank, dapperly dressed for a day in the stands of Philadelphia's Shibe Park, is joined by Yankee pitchers Joe Bush and Bob Shawkey on his one side, and catcher Wally Schang and third baseman Frank "Home Run" Baker on the other. Baker was Plank's teammate for seven seasons with the Philadelphia A's, making this gathering in their old stomping ground a reunion of sorts. Bush and Shawkey both notched 20-win seasons in 1922, and Baker finished out his career with a respectable .278 average and 7 homers. The 8" by 10" image features wonderful clarity and contrast. The back has multiple date stamps of “OCT 5 – 1922” and a partial newspaper caption. Excellent condition.
