This incredibly rare and coveted brooch-back press pin is the only model that was issued for media members attending the 1922 World Series between the Giants and Yankees of New York – understandable since each team shared the Polo Grounds as its home ballpark at that time. (“The House That Ruth Built” would open the following season.) In a repeat of the 1921 Fall Classic, the Giants defeated the Yanks yet again – this time without a loss (Game 2 finished in a tie). Upon moving into their new building in the Bronx, the Bambino and company would reverse the trend with a repeat of their own in 1923 and '24 over McGraw's boys.

This is the first one of these elusive press pins that we have put up for auction, and it ranks right up there with the finest in the market. Crafted by famed jewelers Whitehead & Hoag, the front graphics exhibit the slightest bit of wear around the perimeter. Minor oxidation is visible on the brooch back, where "Whitehead & Hoag, Newark NJ" is stamped. Measures approximately 1" by 1/2".
