The American Caramel Company's first E121 issue in 1921 featured 80 cards, jumping to a parallel of 120 cards in 1922 plus an E120 series of 240 produced in colors. The game of baseball was at a crossroads as it entered the 1920's, and so were its two biggest stars, Ty Cobb and Babe Ruth. One man had thrived during the Dead Ball Era, while the other was ready to put it in the rearview mirror. The 1922 E121 American Caramel Series of 120 included four famous portraits of the the Great Bambino. Presented here is his "Holding Ball" pose with a PSA FR 1.5 rating. The waist-high portrait of the affable slugger is strong and clear in the frame, off-center 65/35 left to right. There is creasing at or near three corners and a tiny puncture on the top righ. The back is mostly clean with light toning from age. A great example nonetheless. Part of our recent "Yahtzee Box Find."
