Distributed in October 1921 by E. H. Koester, a New York bakery, the Koester Bread set was issued to commemorate the 1921 World Series between the Yankees and Giants. Cards from this unique regional issue feature the players, managers, and coaches of each team in New York’s first "subway series." The cards are very similar to blank-backed versions of the E121 American Caramel series cards, but are printed on higher-quality, thicker stock. The key card of Babe Ruth offered here features a crisply rendered image of Ruth in a throwing pose as a member of the Boston Red Sox. Apart from being centered approximately 25/75 left to right, the card has few readily visible faults. Minimal corner wear and superb presentation quality far exceed the technical grade assigned by SGC. A very small surface chip on the lower right edge on the reverse might have kept this gem from earning one or two full grades higher.
