This extraordinary panoramic presentation photograph captures the 1916 Chicago White Sox team, including six of the future banned 1919 Black Sox players (Joe Jackson, Buck Weaver, Happy Felsch, Fred McMullin, Lefty Williams, and Eddie Cicotte). The entire team is lined up, seated or crouched in the foreground, in their White Sox home uniforms. Joe Jackson is on the far left. Behind the players, posed for this special presentation photograph, are their guests, the delegates to the annual National Rural Letter Carriers Association convention. The Association held their annual convention in Chicago in 1916, and a visit to see the White Sox was planned as a special event. This photograph was created as a keepsake of the day. The presentation is very elaborately and expensively constructed, with custom-made identification matting bearing an embossed caption in gold lettering that reads, "Delegates to the Fourteenth Annual Convention of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association enjoying the National game at the White Sox Baseball Park, Chicago, Ill. Wednesday, August Ninth, Nineteen Hundred and Sixteen." Illustrations of the White Sox ballpark and Chicago's famous Montgomery Ward & Co. store appear in the lower left and right corners of the mat, each with identification below. This photograph demonstrates outstanding production quality, with flawless contrast. The photograph measures 9 by 26 inches. The matting measures 29.5 by 12 inches. The matte is in very good to excellent condition overall with a small crack that runs the width of the matte from the inside window on the bottom left to the left side. The photograph is in excellent condition overall.
