While many tobacco companies produced premiums that were obtained by mailing in coupons packaged with their product, none were as atypical or extraordinary as the 1912 S110 Silk Pillowcase. Produced by the company that made Helmar and Turkey Red Tobacco brands, this exceptional pillowcase sheet features five of the era’s great players: Ty Cobb, Christy Mathewson, Frank Baker, Tris Speaker, and Walter Johnson. Cobb, Mathewson, Baker, Speaker and Johnson are of course easily recognizable. Each of the five players are depicted in full body color poses that are reminiscent of their respective T3 Turkey Red tobacco cards. The players are mounted atop a baseball diamond and equipment, finished on the edges with fine Victorian lace. Measuring 22 1/2x22 ½”, this unconventional premium shows toning from age throughout and some light staining. The pillowcase has been professionally matted and framed with protective UV glass and is one of the finest examples, and perhaps the finest example of this highly desirable S110 issue featuring five Hall of Fame stars.
