From one of the five original members of the Hall of Fame comes this wonderful Type 1 photograph of Christy Mathewson in full uniform leaning against a bat posed against a white backdrop. This 7" x 11" photograph was taken by Unity Studios in the 1910's and still presents in superb condition with only a slight crease in the lower right quadrant that is barely noticable with the naked eye. The reverse is blank and has some yellowing (typical for the period). The crystal clear image of Mathewson does the young ball player justice as he appears healthy and strong and the role model that millions of parents wanted their children to emulate during the period. An immaculate piece of an American hero who sadly passed only a little more than a decade after this photo was taken due to contracting terbuculosis after being gassed in a training excercise in Europe during World War 1.  Significant mementos of the iconic Mathewson don't often surface in as immaculate conditon as the offered example; especially century old photographs with no cracks and virtually no creases or folds to be found. Encapsulated and Authenticated PSA/DNA Type 1. Also accompanied by a full LOA from PSA/DNA - scroll over the images to see the detailed LOA from PSA/DNA.
