Presented here is a wonderful example of the elusive T206 "Magie" error card. For years considered one of the iconic set's Big 3 along with Wagner and Plank, the hobby's most notorious mistake remains one of the toughest to check off one's T206 checklist. A consistently solid player who batted .291 with 2,169 knocks and 1,176 ribbies during his career, Sherry Magee became a Hall of Famer among card collectors when Piedmont initially misspelled his last name in its cigarette packs. This was caught and fixed relatively quickly, limiting the total number of "Magie" mistakes in circulation to a couple hundred at most. To this day, only 131 encapsulated examples show up in PSA's pop report, 50 of which are slabbed either AUTHENTIC or POOR 1. There are only seven PSA graded at EX 5 or better.

Packing far more eye appeal than its given grade would indicate, this PSA PR 1 exemplar pops with amazing green background color and precise picture quality in capturing Magee's portrait. The front is mostly clean with some light soiling along the white border, while the back has a bit more soiling from wear and age. The corners are evenly rounded as if that was the intention, and the edges are quite smooth. The card is almost perfectly centered side-to-side and nicely framed top-to-bottom. Horizontal surface wrinkles starting on the left edge run into his face, with more severe vertical creases coming down from the top edge and another crease on the bottom right at an angle. The "150 Subjects", "Piedmont" and "Factory No. 25" appear in sharp blue print on the back. According to PSA, slight paper loss at the 'S' in the word "BASEBALL" on the back was the main reason for the relatively harsh grade.
