Impressive Sterling Silver medal presented to Tommy Ryan, World Welterweight Champion from 1894 to 1898 and Middleweight Champion 1898 to 1907, for rescuing a distressed swimmer. Top portion of medal Has American Eagle above "PRESENTED TO TOMMY RYAN FOR SAVING FROM DROWNING". Middle has 3 men in a boat attending to a prone swimmer. Bottom portion has Stratford city crest surrounded by a life preserver, atop anchor and crossed oars. V.L.S.C. written on top of anchor and life preserver. Top piece stamped "LEOPOLD & THIELE NEW YORK 142 FULTON STREET STERLING" on back. Bottom piece stamped "LEOPOLD & THIELE NEW YORK 142 FULTON STREET Stratford, Conn. Aug. 14 '98 STERLING" on back. Beautiful looking Sterling Silver medal!
