Interesting engraved horseshoe fashioned by World Heavyweight Boxing Champion Bob Fitzsimmons and given to a friend. Horseshoe stands 6" tall and engraved at top "From Robert Fitzsimmons To my Friend Timothy L. Sullivan Carson City March 17, 1897". Cross bar at bottom reads "Good Luck". March 17, 1897 was the date Fitzsimmons won the World Heavyweight Boxing Championship by knocking out Jim Corbett in the 14th round of their fight in Carson City Nevada. Stand in back made to resemble a horse's leg. To add to the look of a real horseshoe 8 nails are present, 4 on each side. Fitzsimmons became a blacksmith early in life and practiced the craft all through his adult days. Rare and great looking piece of 19th Century Boxing History.

Includes a Letter of Provenance from the Helms Athletic Foundation/LA84 Collection.
