Hall of Fame legend Mike King Kelly was a hard-living, hard-drinking ball player, a two-time batting champion and daring base runner whose skill and infectious charm turned him into the game's first hero and one of America's first celebrities in the 1880s and 1890s. Never was Kelly featured more compellingly on a baseball card than with his representation in the 1888 N162 Goodwin Champion series. This example is remarkably bright with a stirring image of Kelly set against a stormy sky backdrop in beautifully toned lithography. Only modest corner wear is evident on this attractive 19th century gem graded EX 5 by PSA.
