The N162 Goodwin "Champion" series featured 50 subjects including the very first tobacco insert representing an American football player. The honor of being the hobby's first known football card went to Harry Beecher, captain of the undefeated (13-0) 1888 National Champion Yale football team coached by the legendary Walter Camp. Graded VG 3 by PSA, the front of this iconic card apears NM with outstanding color and very strong picture quality. Well-centered and clean with mostly white borders, it has three evenly rounded corners (top left is nicer than the other three) with a tiny stain on the bottom right reverse corner. Overall, an exceptional example of a highly coveted 19th century issue.
