The Following Lot Originates from the Jake Virtue Estate Collection (click here for info.)

This trio of cabinets depicts the players from the 1887-1888 Canton club of the Ohio State League. The composite cabinet features the entire lineup of players, depicted in their Canton jerseys complete with neckties. Included in the team composite is the image of Jake Virtue, the team’s first baseman from whose collection these three cabinets were obtained. In addition to the team composite there are individual cabinets of Bill Delaney and George Bausewine. Delaney, who played second base and pitched, would follow Jake Virtue to the Cleveland Spiders in 1890. Bausewine would join the Philadelphia Athletics in 1889 where he would post a 1-4 record. All three of these cabinets were produced by H.B. Post and Company of Canton, Ohio, whose advertising is found on the fronts. Measuring 4-1/8" by 6-1/2", the cabinets are in very fine condition, their images clear and bright with just light toning and wear from age. The Bausewine cabinet has a diagonal crease running from the left side to the bottom edge. The Delaney cabinet is identified on the reverse with his name written in pencil. An outstanding trio of cabinets featuring an obscure minor league club and two future major leaguers. LOA from the Jake Virtue Estate.
