The 1966 season marked the San Diego Chargers final campaign in Balboa Stadium. On December 4, the Chargers beat the Houston Oilers to bring their season record to 6-5, after which this game ball was saved and inscribed for posterity. The Spalding Official American Football League ball shows good game use with some fading to the leather. The top panel has been carefully inscribed with “GAME BALL RICE STADIUM 12-4-66 SAN DIEGO CHARGERS 28 HOUSTON OILERS 22” in white paint. The entire ball is covered with over 50 black ink signatures of the Chargers team. A great early team signed AFC game ball. This piece includes a letter of provenance from the San Diego Hall of Champions.
